We have been studying how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators using clock and money models. Clocks are friendly with fractions like: 1/2, 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 1/6-5/6 and 1/12-11/12, and 1/60-59/60. Please encourage your child to use an analog clock to tell time to support his/her math learning. In addition, please encourage your child to count money and/or make change and think of the change as fractions of a dollar. For example: 1/2, 1/4, 1/5, 1/10, 1/100 and so on. A penny would be 1/100 of a dollar, and dime would be 1/10 and a nickel would be 1/20 of a dollar.

Announcing:
Below, you will find a copy of the unit 1 Multiplication and Volume Checkpoint answer key. This can be used as a resource when preparing for the unit 1 test or to review the problems that were challenging for your child. Please note that both Mr. Macmillen and Mrs. Ryan held a review session of this checkpoint today and will again tomorrow.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We would like you to know that we are approaching the end of Unit 1: Equations, Expressions, and Volume in our math classes and have scheduled the Unit 1 Test for Tuesday, October 20th. Students have written this notification in their planners too. This week’s homework in the Home Connections book (pages 15-20) is an excellent review of the concepts we have been studying. In addition, students should review their Student Book pages and their notes on strategies. Go to the following link below to view a volume vide and work on your extra credit assignment.
